Southeast Domestic Violence Intake Center: Victim Services |
$32,949 |
The Southeast Domestic Violence Intake Center, a collaboration of local public and private agencies, is located at a medical center in an underserved area of the District of Columbia. The Center plays a pivotal role in providing a safe and secure location for domestic violence victims seeking assistance and services. Through the use of web conferencing technology, an individual seeking a protection order communicates with a judicial officer located at the courthouse, and obtains a temporary protection order via fax. This process eliminates the need for domestic violence victims to travel a distance to the courthouse to obtain assistance. In addition, Center staff work with victims to explain court proceedings, assist with case preparation, provide personal safety information, make emergency referrals to shelters, and provide legal referrals.
The Southeast Domestic Violence Intake Center is a one-stop source for domestic violence victims. Grant funds are also used to provide training to judges on the dynamics and impact of domestic violence.
